Description:
The client manufactures wooden pallet collars in both standard and custom sizes. There was a pressing need to revise the existing costing model in order to better assess profitability per product with correct pricing, irrespective of the type of product. In addition, the client was keen to gain a more secure basis on which to decide on a planned new investment. The consultant gathered the facts, adapted the existing costing model and produced a value stream mapping and layout with proposed improvements. A model was developed for profitability calculation per product as a function of volume and capacity costs.
Result:
- Joint mapping of processes and streams took place.
- Employees were trained in data collection, how to reduce production losses and the basics of lean production.
- The structure of the workflow was improved, and better order was maintained among materials and tools.
- Improved product costings and capacity calculations proved to be the foundation for the desired expansion plan.
